Communication

It is crucial that the school office have the current and up-to-date contact details (phone numbers and email addresses). Please contact them if your details have changed.

At Mayville Primary, we pride ourselves on our open-door policy, but current circumstances make this more difficult. Therefore, if you need to speak to your child’s class teacher, you can either contact the office and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you could contact teachers via Google Class.

In Year 6 children are able to walk home by themselves. Before they are able to walk home by themselves, please contact the office to ensure this request is recorded and passed on to the teacher.

General Class Housekeeping

PE:  Year 6 PE is on a Friday. Children should arrive wearing the clothes they need for PE on this day.

What to bring to school

We encourage children to not bring backpacks into school unless absolutely necessary so as to limit the number of items they bring in from home each day.

All your children need to bring is:

  • A named water bottle
  • A named packed lunch (if not school dinners)
  • Their reading record

We are very excited about the work we will be doing in Year 6 this year. We will be teaching the full Year 6 curriculum.

Although there is a lot to cover and there will be some focus on SATs, please be assured we will still be teaching a broad curriculum and children will have plenty of opportunities to take part in other subjects they enjoy such as PE, French, Computing, Art, Science, History and Geography. There will also be a full PSHE programme running throughout the year covering a range of topics to support pupil well-being.

Children will stream for English and Maths. For foundation subjects, children will be taught in their class groups.

Weekly Home Learning

In Year 6 the expectations for home learning do increase a little from Year 5. Weekly home learning will be shared on Atom Prime Learning to consolidate learning from across the week.

Google Classroom will be used to communicate relevant information about Year 6 and any half term projects that are set for the children. Link for Google Classroom: https://classroom.google.com/u/1/c/NDg5MzUwNzU2OTE1

In Year 6 children will need to complete

  • 30 minutes of reading every day – Please see below some suggested books we encourage your child to read this year
  • Weekly spelling practice
  • Weekly maths home learning
  • Half-termly/termly topic learning

In Year 6 all children will take part in SATs which are national assessments for all children aged 10-11. These are currently scheduled for Monday 8th May to Thursday 11th May 2023. While we will work hard towards SATs and ensure your children are prepared, we want our children to feel relaxed and optimistic towards the tests.

SATs are only a small part of the Year 6 experience and all we will ask from our children is that they try their best
