Dance is a fun and exciting form of exercise and a great way to keep fit. The session usually begins with a warm-up which helps to improve fitness and stamina.
The class are often taught a dance routine that they build upon over a number of weeks. This helps to develop co-ordination, technique, performance skills and the capacity for movement memory. Sometimes these routines are performed in assembly or in front of parents at the end of the term.
The students sometimes choreograph their own dance routines in small groups. This is an opportunity to be fun and creative. Occasionally at the end of the lesson we play dance games, such as musical statues, as well as being fund this provides an opportunity to practice freestyle moves.
