Every Monday Mayville local Salvation Army officers come to provide a brass band tutoring aimed at small groups within Key-stage 2. The school provides all the instruments for children to practice with throughout the year. Learning to play a musical instrument has a host of benefits for children. Researchers have found evidence that music lessons can enhance the sensitivity of the brain to speech sounds and help children improve their language skills, as well as their musical ability. Other research has found that it can boost children’s memory abilities, improve their behaviour and intelligence as a whole.
It also helps children learn to read music scores, gain better motor skills (as they need to learn how to play instruments), gain a sense of belonging when they’re in a group who all play music together and it helps boost self-confidence too and encourages social interaction.
