Specialist Resource Provision (SRP)

‘Equality isn’t treating everyone the same; it’s giving everyone what they need to succeed.’

Our Provision is for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

Welcome to our SRP

At Mayville, our Specialist Resource Provision offers a nurturing learning environment within our mainstream school. We recognise that every child has their own strengths, interests and ways of learning. Our approach starts with getting to know each child and understanding the support they need to flourish. We tailor lessons, interventions and teaching approaches to meet their individual needs.

We aim to help children develop confidence, communication, independence and a positive relationship with learning. We celebrate progress in all its forms, from learning a new skill to expressing a need, building a friendship or trying something unfamiliar.

How do we support children’s learning?

Children follow a personalised learning programme, informed by their starting points and the outcomes in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Our curriculum connects with the wider school’s learning themes, with teaching and activities adapted to make them meaningful and accessible. Children have opportunities to develop essential reading, writing and mathematical skills alongside creativity, exploration and practical learning. We also plan opportunities to learn alongside other classes, helping children share experiences and build relationships across the school.

Support is tailored to each child and may include:

  • Teaching individually or in small groups.
  • Visual timetables and “Now and Next” supports.
  • Clear routines and support with transitions.
  • Practical resources, movement and sensory activities.
  • Activities that build on children’s interests.
  • Carefully structured opportunities to practise skills independently.

How do we support communication and wellbeing?

Positive relationships are at the heart of our provision. We take time to understand how each child communicates, what helps them feel comfortable and what may cause frustration or make it harder to manage their emotions.

Adults support children to express their needs, recognise their feelings and develop strategies for managing emotions. Predictable routines, visual support and opportunities for movement or a quiet break help children participate in the school day. Above all, we work to maintain a calm, happy and engaging classroom where children feel understood, supported and ready to learn.

How are children included in school life?

Children in the SRP are valued members of the Mayville community. We plan opportunities for them to learn, play and participate alongside their mainstream peers, with support matched to their individual needs.

Participation is planned and reviewed carefully so that children can build relationships, experience success and develop a sense of belonging.

How do we work with families?

Parents and carers know their children best. We value their knowledge and work together to understand each child’s strengths, needs and priorities.

We share achievements, discuss challenges and review progress together. Communication between home and school helps us provide consistent support and identify meaningful next steps.

How do we recognise progress?

We look at each child’s progress from their individual starting point. Alongside academic learning, we recognise growth in communication, emotional wellbeing, relationships, independence and participation.

Observations, children’s work and family feedback help us review learning and progress towards EHCP outcomes.
