Physical development in the Foundation Stage is about improving skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation

and movement. It helps children gain confidence in what they can do and enables them to feel the positive benefits of being active and to make healthy choices in relation to food. Effective physical development helps children build up a positive sense of well-being.

We start formal P.E. sessions during the summer term in reception where children will need a P.E. kit. Throughout

the year children will need sensible clothing and shoes for lots of outdoor play.

How you can help:

Encourage your child to be independent when going to the toilet, dressing and eating. Try a range of foods and

discuss the importance of a healthy diet.

Take your child to places where they can run, climb, kick and catch.

Encourage control in small movements such as threading, fastening buttons, gripping a pencil correctly, holding and using scissors.
